Am I eligible for Meals On Wheels of Sarasota, Inc.?

To be eligible for our services, you must be:
Living in Sarasota County from University Parkway to Blackburn Point Road, and from I-75 to Siesta Key, and Longboat Key.
This area is divided into 32 routes and covers 600 square miles.

Additional factors contributing to eligibility may include:

  • » Being homebound
  • » Unable to prepare meals or have a means to prepare meals
  • » Recent hospital stay or ongoing health problems
  • » Living Alone

What kind of meal services do we provide?

We provide a nutritious meal Monday through Saturday. Our menu is focused on a heart healthy nutritional meal − one that meets Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) standards and tastes great. We provide a low sodium, low fat, lower sugar fare for all our clients which will satisfy the many age groups, genders and sizes of our clients with different cultural palates.

How do I apply for Meals On Wheels of Sarasota, Inc.?

You, a family member, or caregiver can apply for our Home-Delivered Meals program online or by phone by contacting MOW Sarasota at our main line, 941-366-6693.

How long does it take to get on the meal service?

As soon as your application has been approved, meal delivery will begin.

I have a medical condition that requires a special diet. Can you accommodate me?

We are unable to provide meals for specialized dietary restrictions. Menu items have salt and sugar but no additional salt or sugar is added.

Do I have to live alone to receive Meals?

No, but we do focus our services on those who are isolated and need community support. If you live with someone else, but need additional support, you may qualify.

I have difficulty carrying things. Can the drivers bring my meals inside?

Yes! Our drivers are ready, willing, and able to bring your meals into the kitchen, leave them on a table, or put them into your refrigerator − whichever is most helpful to you. You can also accept them right at the door.

Can the drivers leave my meals if I have to go out?

YES. Although part of our mission is to see each of our clients for each delivery to ensure that the client is safe on a day-to-day basis, you may provide a cooler if you wish to have your meal left outside. If you are planning on being away from home for an extended period of time when we usually deliver meals, please contact us.

There are some foods that I don't eat. Can I get something else instead?

Unfortunately, we are not able to make substitutions to our meals.

Can I suspend service for a couple of days without being cancelled from the program?

Yes. We request as much notice as possible in advance of cancelling or resuming your service. You may temporarily suspend service due to special circumstances such as extended hospitalization or convalescent stays.

Is Meals On Wheels of Sarasota, Inc. only for a limited time?

Our goal is to ensure that our clients can remain independent in their homes for as long as safely possible. Meals are provided for the period of time needed by the client.
